Legislation
Legislative programs adopted by Bozeman BPW, educate the membership and the public about local, state and national issues and legislation impacting women.

Gender Wage Gap: Given that women currently earn 73 cents compared to the dollar earned by their male counterparts, a major issue of interest to BPW is eliminating this gender wage gap. This important issue is further highlighted in a recent BPW guest column "Equal Pay is About More Than Fairness" by Sally Babcock in the Bozeman Daily Chronicle. BPW is working hard to eliminate this inequity by supporting related legislation and awareness programs, such as Equal Pay Day.

National BPW Foundation: Bozeman BPW is licensed by our national organization, BPW Foundation. Business and Professional Women’s Foundation is transforming the workplace with women and employers. Their role is to convene employees and employers to create solutions that improve the workplace for today’s workforce. The work of BPW Foundation focuses on two issues: Successful Workplaces and Empowered Workforce.
International Women's Day: Bozeman BPW members participate in International Women's Day each year. In 2011 it was held in Helena at the Capitol on March 4, sponsored by Montana Women's Lobby and Montana Women Vote.
Women's Suffrage Day: Another event that we recognize is Women's Suffrage Day on August 26 each year. This is the anniversary of women earning the right to vote, the 19th amendment to the US Constitution. Our own Montanan, Jeannette Rankin,
was the only woman in the House of Representatives and served from 1917 to 1919. She was a very active fighter to get women the right to vote. She was also a member of Bozeman BPW, joining us in 1939. For a perspective on the suffrage movement read "My Favorite August" or a History of Women's Right to Vote.
