"Dorothy Eck Day" May 26
Colleagues and Friends Join Bozeman BPW In A Tribute to Eck

May 22, 1999

Bozeman Business and Professional Women (BPW) has unofficially declared Weds., May 26 to be "Dorothy Eck Day." BPW has invited members of AAUW, the League of Women Voters along with Eck's colleagues, friends, and fans to attend a special luncheon program to honor retiring State Senator Eck. The luncheon program will be held from 12-1 p.m. at Zajdel's Restaurant in the Elks Club on Babcock St. The cost for lunch is $6; reservations are necessary and must be made by calling BPW First Vice President Penny Walker at 388-6106 before Tuesday morning at 10 a.m.

BPW member and Bozeman Mayor-to-Be Marcia Youngman will serve as Master of Ceremonies and will highlight achievements in Eck's long career of public service. Dorothy Bradley, Mike Cooney, Helen Kerr, Mary Vant Hull, Hal Harper, Marilyn Wessel, Kayle Jackson, Beverly Barnhart, Jeff Rupp, Emily Swanson and others will share stories and anecdotes about their experiences with Eck.

Eck has served as a State Senator from Bozeman's District 40 since 1981. Over the years she has worked on such issues as women's and children's health, women's rights, a strong educational system, tax reform and the conservation of natural resources. She enthusiastically encouraged others to get involved in political life and public service, including Dorothy Bradley, Bob Brown, Mignon Waterman, Sue Bartlett, and Hal Harper.

Eck has also been active in numerous organizations, some of which are BPW, League of Women Voters, the Methodist Church, the United Nations Association, Society for International Communication, the Montana Advisory Council on Children and Youth and other advisory councils like Affordable Housing, Women in Transition, Women's Resource Center and Case Management Home Health Program. Eck carried legislation creating a Montana Conservation Corps and has served on its board for many years.
