CHAFEY AWARDED BPW WOMAN OF ACHIEVEMENT

Bozeman BPW Celebrated Accomplishments of Women in Community
Bozeman, Mont., March 12, 2008 – The
Bozeman Business and Professional Women (BPW) is proud to announce
Kathleen (Kay) Chafey as the winner of the 2008 Woman of Achievement
Award. Mayor Kaaren Jacobson presented the award to Chafey at the BPW
Ceremony on March 4, 2008. Commemorating the important contributions of
women, nominees included Carol Townsend and Deidre Combs.
“The Woman of Achievement program
provides the opportunity to honor women who are making a difference in our
community,” stated BPW President Lindsey VanHemelryck.
“All three of these women deserved to win; they have all contributed to
the growth and empowerment of women in the workplace through advocacy,
education and promotion.”
Chafey has dedicated the past 30 years
to improving public health and education in Montana. Her extensive
background includes a B.S. in Nursing, an M.S. in Public Health Nursing
and a PhD in Developmental Psychology. Kay has earned numerous accolades
including the Betty Coffey and the Jo Eleanor Elliott Leadership Awards,
and has received over 12 million dollars in grants to support initiatives
for women. Currently serving as the Vice President of the First Security
Bank Board of Directors and President of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa
Phi, Kay continues to dedicate her knowledge, experience and skills to
helping women advance in education, business, athletics and public
service.
“Kay has been adamant about improving
the workplace and educational opportunities for young girls and women,”
stated Norma Boetel, owner of Boetel Agency. “As the first woman to serve
on the Board of Directors for First Security Bank, Kay has also been a
strong advocate for recruiting other women to serve on similar boards
throughout the community.”
The Woman of Achievement Awards Ceremony
was held at the Bozeman Public Library on March 4, 2008. Mayor Kaaren
Jacobson was in attendance to present the Award and honor all attendees
with a brief presentation on the strength and success of women in the
workplace. Nominating representatives spoke on behalf of each nominee, and
a full house of BPW members, family, and friends celebrated the
accomplishments of Chafey, Combs and Townsend. Upon being awarded the
Woman of Achievement honor, Chafey stated, “it has taken me thirty years
to complete some of my goals, but persistence and teamwork have been on my
side.”
