Anna Graham, annagraham@sprintmail.com For Immediate Use wk: (406) 586-5889 April 5, 2000 Women's Improv "Rumble" on April 7, 2000 Aims to Raise Awareness About Domestic Violence Bozeman, MT - On Friday night, April 7, Bozeman Business and Professional Women (BPW) will co-sponsor the "All Women's Improv Rumble" in partnership with the Equinox Theatre Company and the Battered Women's Network. Directed by Katie Goodman, the evening's program will focus on a "rumble" - or competition - between improv teams from Broad Comedy of the Equinox Theatre Company and the New Venture Theater of Billings. The audience will be voting for the best improv team of the night. In addition to fun and light-hearted improv, original sketch work, including satire and musical comedy, will be presented. The rumble will begin at 8 p.m. at the Museum of the Rockies. Broad Comedy will debut several new pieces. They've played to sold out audiences since their start two years ago. Members come from all walks of life; some are teachers, students, musicians, and/or professional actors. The collaboration between the Bozeman Business and Professional Women, the Equinox Theatre and the Battered Women's Network came about because the directors of all three organizations are members of Bozeman BPW. Bonnie Sachatello-Sawyer (current BPW president) initiated conversations with Katie Goodman (director of the Equinox Theatre Company) and Janet Stice (director of the Battered Women's Network) about doing an event this month to raise awareness about domestic violence. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Child Abuse Awareness Month. Janet Stice, director of the Battered Women's Network, recently reported: "A woman is beaten every 9 seconds. Battering is the most common and least reported crime in the country today." The Battered Women's Network serves Madison, Meagher, Park, Sweetgrass, and Gallatin Counties. They provide temporary shelter, a 24-hour crisis line, support groups and legal advocacy. A special display created by Montana BPW members will also be on view at the Museum on the evening of the rumble. Titled "Silent Witness," the display features life-size, red silhouettes of women who have died from domestic violence in Montana.. The figures have been created in memory of over 30 women who have died at the hands of a husband, partner or acquaintance since 1990. A dessert reception will follow the performance and the audience will be able to view the Silent Witnesses at that time. Tickets for the "All Women's Improv Rumble" are $10, and available only at the door. For more information, call Bonnie Sachatello-Sawyer at 586-7839 or Anna Graham at 586-5889. Who
