TUESDAY,
APRIL 20 IS
NATIONAL
EQUAL PAY DAY
Several businesses are joining
with the Bozeman Business and Professional Women (BPW) to call
attention to the wage gap in which women, on average, earn 76 cents for every
dollar earned by men. Tuesday is symbolic of the point in a new week that a
woman must work in order to earn the wages paid to a man in the previous week.
Because women, on average, earn less, they must work longer for the same pay.
Over a working lifetime, this wage disparity costs the average American woman
and her family an estimated $250,000 in lost wages.
At this time, the businesses
listed below had agreed to charge women seventy-five cents on the dollar
during Equal Pay Day to symbolize the discrepancy between the average pay
for women and men.
Watch
for ads on KBZK-CBS TV and in the
Bozeman Chronicle for the entire list of businesses that will
participate. Please tell your friends and
go shop and eat at these businesses for 25% off. Enjoy yourself and help us
call attention to this important issue.
